RIYADH: The Saudi National Campaign (SNC) to help Syrian people stepped up its medical assistance to those undergoing treatment at Zaatari Refugee Camp in northern Jordan by providing them with prescribed medications.

“Extending support to the displaced families, Saudi Specialized Clinics (SSCs) provided 1,762 prescriptions through an affiliated pharmacy for those undergoing treatment at the Zaatari camp,” an SNC official said here on Sunday.

He revealed that comprehensive pharmaceutical assistance for patients in the camp falls amid continuous medical efforts and various other assistance being extended to the Syrian brothers and sisters.

The official added that the SSCs provide the best means of health care for the displaced Syrians through their various wards including the pharmacy.

The SNC has set up 13 specialized clinics, a psychiatric unit, laboratory, X-ray department and pharmacies in the Zaatari camp to provide adequate medical assistance for communicable and non-communicable diseases, and the doctors have also handled a number of psychiatric patients who were badly affected by the conditions that drove them to become refugees.

Besides medical assistance, the SNC provides comprehensive relief programs and offers vocational training to help distressed Syrians.

Apart from the relief and humanitarian role, the SNC continues in the fight against illiteracy in the camp through tutorial classes for children, and also organizes health camps to avoid health risks in the camp.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) also known as the UN Refugee Agency, recently applauded the Kingdom for making sincere efforts to care for and support distressed Syrians refugees in Jordan and Lebanon.
