Labor disputes and amicable settlements will be among major topics that will be taken up at a social dialogue that will be held under the auspices of Labor Minister Adel Fakeih on Sept. 3.

An official from the Labor Ministry told Arab News that this is the fourth social dialogue arranged by the ministry to bridge the gap between both employers and employees and the public and private sectors through mutual understanding.

The program is being held on the guidelines of the International Labor Organization (ILO), which espouses the cause of building better relations between managers and employees. The meeting will examine causes behind current labor issues and explore the possibilities of solving them amicably. It will also identify problem areas and chalk out public awareness programs to streamline implementation of local labor regulations.

Social dialogue plays a critical role in achieving the ILO’s objective of advancing opportunities for women and men to carry out decent and productive work in conditions of freedom, equality, security and human dignity.

Social dialogue includes all types of negotiation, consultation and exchange of information between, or among, government reps, employers and workers on issues of common interest.

The ILO encourages tripartism within member states by promoting social dialogue to help design and implement national policies. To encourage such an approach, one of the strategic objectives of the ILO is to strengthen social dialogue among the tripartite constituents.
