The lawyer of a 12-year-old girl who was given an HIV-tainted blood transfusion at a hospital in Asir said he plans to file a lawsuit against the Ministry of Health seeking SR50 million for the child’s family, local media said.

Speaking on a televised program recently, lawyer Ibrahim Al-Hakami said the case has been suspended for nine months, but was reopened with the forensic commission in Jazan two weeks ago, burnews.com reported.

He said members of the medical team responsible for the incident were questioned at the time and admitted that they erroneously transfused HIV-tainted blood to Riham, the paper said.

However, the hospital and the Ministry of Health has so far denied the lawyer access to a report claiming that Riham had fully recovered from AIDS risk, the paper said.
