The Jeddah Municipality is currently undertaking projects worth SR 600 million to ease the traffic congestion in the city’s districts.

Culture and Media Director General of the Municipality Abdul Aziz Al-Ghamdi said that the most notable among those projects is the construction of a 1,400 meter tunnel with four lanes on each side underneath the intersection of Andalus, Palestine and Al-Hamrah streets.

This contract worth SR315 million also includes provision for the drainage of rainwater.

Another project for the construction of an underpass and overpass is under way at the intersection of the old Makkah Road with Prince Majed Road at a cost of SR198 million.

The 550-meter underpass on Makkah Road will have two lanes on each side besides service roads. The overpass on the Prince Majed Road is 600 meters long with three lanes in addition to the service lanes.

The project aims to ease the traffic bottlenecks on Prince Majed road that starts from the airport and ends at the Leith-Jazan Road and links it with Al-Falah Road coming from Makkah.
