JEDDAH: An Arab expatriate woman has inherited SR67 million and a villa a month after her marriage to a Saudi man.
The businessman married the 22-year-old woman without informing his extended family. Only his brother and a close friend witnessed the formal marriage ceremony.
He died one month later after a heart attack at the home of his new wife, Al-Marsad online newspaper reported.
His family refused to recognize the marriage on the grounds that they were not aware of it, prompting the wife to take legal recourse and demand her part of the inheritance.
In a Jeddah court, her lawyer produced the marriage certificate as evidence and called the husband’s brother and friend who testified that the marriage did take place as claimed.
The court ruled in her favor. Al-Marsad did not give the age of the late groom nor say which Arab country the woman belonged to.
