RIYADH: The Education Department in Riyadh has urged schools to accept Yemeni and Syrian students with visit visas, without the need to confer with education offices first.
However, a large number of parents of different nationalities, including Saudi citizens, have visited the education office seeking to admit their children in government schools in Qortoba, in eastern Riyadh, due to lack of available schools and admission procedures.
The department warned that schools which reject students must provide a justifiable reason.
Also, a number of parents have expressed their concerns over lack of seats in government schools in some parts of the city.
Saud Al-Dalbahi, a parent, said he was forced to resort to private schools near his home temporarily. He said the high fees at private schools burden families, who are now finding themselves in a difficult situation.
According to an official, the mechanism pursued by the admission committee at the Qortoba education office lacks organization, in turn resulting in large, disorganized crowds of parents seeking to finalize admission procedures for their children.
He questioned the lack of online admissions via the “Nour” program, which would make it easier for parents to seek admission of their kids.
Moreover, a statement by authorities says that Yemeni and Syrian students’ admission must be in accordance with certain procedure.
For primary students, kids can be directly admitted by schools without first conferring to the department of admissions or requiring testing.
The passport is to be used to register the date of birth and other registration information, while the visit visa must be valid.
For students between the levels of second grade and the final year in secondary schools, registration would be based on examination through a website.
