A number of students at Jeddah schools have urged the Ministry of Education to extend the midterm holiday, which began Friday, for an additional week, saying that one week is not enough to rest after exams and a long semester.

They called for separating the mid-school year holiday, after which new curriculum begins, and the middle of the semester holiday. With no more than nine days for each break, students requested that midterm holiday be two weeks, at least.

Secondary students Abdullah bin Autef, Hussein bin Amer, Nayef Al-Talidi, Selim Jaber and Mohammed Rafaa said that students, teachers, and parents are considering extending their break. Both parents and students agreed that the difficulties students face during the semester, such as lack of enough sleep and increased stress must be considered, and followed by a period of rest to prepare them for the next term.
