The parents of a number of students at a foreign school have activated an account on Twitter to post a complaint to officials at the Ministry of Education.

Classes were suspended a week ago at the school, a local newspaper reported, without a timeframe for resumption, putting in jeopardy the future of one thousand students studying at the school.

The school premises are rented, but the principal said that the building is not safe. Parents have asked the education department to intervene and find a solution to the problem.

Brg. Abdullah Al-Jedawi, deputy of the General Director of Civil Defense in Makkah, said that his department is familiar with the issue. “The building is not fit for studying. We have clear instructions concerning safety,” said Al-Jedawi, adding that the school administration was given a grace period to make amends but nothing has been done.

On the other hand, the head of Foreign and International education in Jeddah, Khalid Al-Araabi, denied accusations by the parents that disagreements exist with school officials. “Officials at the Ministry met the embassy’s councilor with which the school is affiliated with to discuss an appropriate solution for the problem as soon as possible,” said Al-Araabi.

Abdullah Bin Ahmad Al-Thaqafi, Director General of Education in Jeddah, said that his administration is following up on the issue. “It has been agreed that a joint transitional committee shall be formed to address the situation there and meet all requirement of the educational process,” he explained.
