JEDDAH: The Special Criminal Court has imprisoned two Saudis for 4 and 10 years on charges related to supporting Daesh.
The first defendant was convicted of supporting Daesh and jeopardizing public order, by creating a Twitter account to follow news from Daesh, and tweeting in support of Daesh and Al-Nusra Front.
He logged into pro-Daesh chatrooms, where he communicated with some members to ensure that they were members of Daesh, who expressed their willingness to join the group, and to join the battle in conflict areas. He was also convicted of trying to convince siblings and friends to join Daesh.
The first defendant was convicted also of possessing two pistols and 37 bullets without a license, in addition to using intoxicants, drugs, amphetamines and alcoholic drinks as well as tools used for chopping and filtering cannabis. The court sentenced him to 10 years in prison starting from his arrest date on Jumada Al-Thani 8, 1436.
The court also ordered 80 lashes for him for drinking and drug abuse and prevented him from traveling outside the Kingdom for a similar duration.
The criminal court sentenced the second defendant for supporting Daesh and its terrorist acts after he said that they were right in statements to his colleagues at work, and for following Daesh news on social networking sites, and chatting with supporters in chatrooms.
