The final designs for the suspended train system in Madinah are nearing completion and are being supervised by the Consultative Office.

Sources say the designs are being worked out by a Turkish company, adding that the train will run from Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport to Knowledge City and go on to the Prophet’s Mosque.

The Board of the Madinah Development Authority, under the chairmanship of Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman, held a meeting with the ministers of finance and Haj and the local mayor attending.

In the meeting, the prince ordered the completion of the studies on the transport project so that they can be forwarded to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

The project is one of the outcomes of expansion plans for Madinah, which includes the development of a comprehensive and modern transport network, a metro and carriages linked with parallel stops, stations, maintenance centers and smart systems.

This is essential for the increasing demand of transport in the city, which will reduce traffic congestion and create easier links to the Prophet's Mosque.

Prince Mohammad bin Abdelaziz International Airport is also being expanded to facilitate better services for Haj and Umrah visitors. This project will be executed in stages and includes the principle highways of King Abdulaziz, Higra and Salam.



The sources said that the first stage of the Haramain Train Project has been completed. Progress has already been made in the construction of the station in the second stage, which is located on the King Abdulaziz Highway.
