HAIL: A young woman entrepreneur has successfully set up a profit-making business making sweets after being unemployed for two years ago.

When Fawzia Al-Majed, who graduated from university with a home economics degree, could not find a job, she decided to turn her hobby into a business.

She now owns a shop named Onilla Cake making all sorts of sweets. Having started out with SR20,000 in capital, she makes about SR60,000 a month.

Speaking to a local publication, Al-Majed said that she uses social media to market her products, receiving more than 200 WhatsApp messages a day about her goods.

“I love sweets so much, and I am very keen to succeed in my business. This way of earning a living is what God chose for me,” she said.

Al-Majed said she regularly attends workshops and seminars on marketing. “I am very careful to produce a good quality product. This is the secret of my success,”

she said.

The seed money used to start her business was borrowed from a relative. She now employs four other women, who recently accompanied her to the three-day small business festival in Al-Megwah Park, where she made SR8,000.

While she made good money, she was also able to meet many new customers interested in her cheesecake and sweets flavored with strawberries, chocolate, vanilla, berries and toffee.

Al-Majed said several owners of sweet shops now want her to supply them with her products. She thanked the director of the Aja Women’s Charity, for supporting her and other women at the festival.
