The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECRO) in the Saudi capital celebrated its country's 103rd National Day on Wednesday night.

Representative Jinn-Jong Lin hosted the event and said that his country has "excellent bilateral ties” with Saudi Arabia.

Deputy Representative Oliver B.L. Huang, Economic Counselor W.K. Lai and other TECRO staff also attended the event.

Addressing some 300 visitors, including members of the diplomatic community, Saudi officials, businesspeople and other guests, Jinn-Jong said the ties now include strong cooperation in various sectors.

On the cultural side, TECRO have been inviting Saudi officials, businessmen and other guests, including the press, to films on Taiwanese life and culture, trade and tourist attractions at its auditorium inside the Diplomatic Quarter.

“Good knowledge about the country's culture and trade and industry has helped to attract Saudi nationals, including businessmen, to Taiwan,” said Abdulmohsen A. Al-Makdaly, a Saudi guest. Bilateral trade between the two countries now stands at SR65.6 billion. Taiwan is the seventh-largest market for Saudi products that include petrochemicals and plastics.

“At present, we're focusing on joint ventures. In this regard, we're considering a number of different sectors including health and energy, among others,” Jinn-Jong told Arab News.
