A resident in Madinah died shortly after he was transferred to a hospital from the roadside where he was left by the driver of a car who had given him a ride and later tried to rob him, according to a police statement.

Madinah police spokesperson Col. Fahd bin Amer Al-Ghannam said that the case was reported by another expat who was riding with the victim in the same car but managed to escape from the driver. He said that they had taken a lift from the driver of the car to go to Yanbu but on the way, the driver turned into a side lane where he stopped and ordered them to empty their pockets.

Al-Ghannam said that the driver fled leaving the victim on the roadside. The latter was transported to a nearby hospital where he died.

He added that a task force was formed to follow up on the report and an investigation was launched into the case, adding that the perpetrator, a 15-year-old without any identification papers, was arrested.
