Security authorities in Makkah, represented by Kaakiya police, are investigating the alleged suicide of a Thai expatriate inside a mosque in the holy city’s Kaakiya neighborhood.

Giving the details of the incident, a source said that the parents of the expatriate, about 26 years old, noticed some change in his behavior and attitude since Muharram.

They said he went the other day to pray in the mosque, but did not return home after Isha. They called him on his mobile but there was no response. They kept calling until an hour past midnight. The source said that a man came into the mosque to offer dawn prayers and was later found hanging from the second floor of the mosque.

Kaakiya police and the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution are investigating.

Lt. Col. Ati Al-Qurashi, spokesman for Makkah police, said the Kaakiya police station received a report stating that a man died in the mosque. Security officers moved immediately to the scene and found the man hanging from the ceiling.

He said four regions have been selected for the new centers which need new staff, however, the ministry currently relies on social workers to do the reconciliation works with approximately 180 researchers. The ministry relies on pensioners to work in the reform (reconciliation) offices in the courts as a preliminary step, also.

The reconciliation offices have so far processed 40-60 percent of cases received regarding the solving of differences between couples, he said.

In another development, the implementation court in Jeddah ordered a Saudi man to allow his children see their mother three days a week. The man is obliged to implement the ruling within five days from its issuance or otherwise is due to face punitive actions, the media said.
