RIYADH: Four polling stations in Tabuk have stopped registering voters for the Dec. 12 municipal elections in the region.

Ibrahim bin Ahmed Al-Ghabban, undersecretary at the Tabuk municipality and member of the local committee for the election of a municipal council, said that the four centers have come up with 3,000 voters each which they’re required to register.

Registration for the municipal elections started last Saturday and is expected to last about a month.

Al-Ghabban said the four polling stations which had stopped registration include Center 525 in the city of Tabuk, Center 537 in Taima province, Center 541 in Duba province and Center 542 in Al-Wajh.

He said that voters who could no longer be accommodated at the four polling stations were told they could go to other centers which had not yet reached their maximum limit.

Al Ghabban expressed optimism regarding election results based on the response of citizens, saying that the citizens are aware of the importance of their participation in the elections.

He said their voting will make them active participants in boosting social and economic development in the Kingdom.

He noted that there are 45 polling stations for the registration of voters, adding that some 500 men and women are active in the registration process and work every day from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. to serve the voters and provide the required assistance to guide them inside the polling stations.

He added that the secretariat of the local committee for the election of municipal councils in the region has made it imperative for members of the community to make the election succeed.
