MADINAH: Three young men have been arrested for producing a video that accuses a local mayor and an official of corruption.

The men are under investigation by officers from the Al-Mahad police station. The 22-second video shows the men pretending to be the Al-Mahad mayor and a fellow official discussing the municipality’s budget. The third man plays the role of the mayor’s driver.

One man, acting as the secretary of the municipality, speaks about what he would do with the municipality’s SR3 million budget once he is appointed head of the municipality.

The “mayor” says that he has issued an order for SR500,000 of the budget to be spent on fixing the pavement outside his house. The video then shows workers fixing a pavement in a street, supposedly in front of the mayor’s house.

The Al-Mahad municipality has filed a complaint against the men. Brig. Gen. Fahad bin Amer Al-Ghannam, director of public relations at the Madinah police department, confirmed that the men have been arrested and are under investigation.
