In a bid to project Asir as a tourism destination, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), with the cooperation of Awad Zarib, an artist, has agreed to have two Spanish artists, Porto and Javier, work on four artistic interfaces to decorate Abha through some unique artwork.

Zarib clarified that he had been studying the idea for the past six months prior to presenting it to the SCTA.

“Prince Sultan bin Salman has agreed to start the project and organize it with the regional municipality,” he informed.

He further said that the sites chosen for the beautification were Abu Khayal, King Faisal Mosque and a scene on Al-Yousif Road.

“The Spanish designers had gone to Riyadh to present their final project to Prince Sultan,” Zarib added.

Zarib stressed that the interfaces are different from the typical artwork and assured that both Porto and Javier have a long experience in working on projects in many countries including Spain, Mexico Algeria, Iraq,and Bahrain.

“I took them on a tour around Al-Yanfa’a Village, Habla, the Al-Sawda promenade and the King Fahd Cultural Center,” he said adding that the designers were very impressed with the monuments and the natural scenery taking several pictures of them.

Mohammed Al-Omra, the general manager of SCTA in Asir, clarified that the commission is keen to cooperate with related sectors to present Assir’s touristic features through the medium of art. He added that the SCTA has many upcoming projects and art studies that will be included in the architecture forum in Asir.
