JUBAIL: The Elite Toastmasters Club here recently held an awards ceremony for the winners of its 10-week Youth Development Program (YLP).
The event saw nine students chosen as winners out of 29 who participated in the program from the International Indian School, Mariya International School and Al-Hussan School. They displayed speaking and leadership skills learnt during the program under the guidance and coaching of the club.
The design of the program included regular meetings, workshops by expert toastmasters, mock contests and special coaching sessions. The grand finale was the pinnacle of these efforts, where all the participants competed in the International Speech, Table Topic Speech and Evaluation Speech categories.
The event started with a colorful banner parade, followed by a video on the contest showing the transformation of the young people over the duration of the program.
Saudi Arabia Toastmasters District 79 Director DTM Abdullah Al-Sharif was the chief guest of the evening. Others in attendance included District CGD DTM James Edward Taruc, Division L Director DTM Venkat Devarajan, Chairman of Mariya International School Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, and Principal of Jubail International Indian School Syed Hameed.
Also present were YLP Chief Adviser DTM Periyanayaham, who delivered a keynote address on the takeaways from the event; and TM Surendra Chari, who was the chief coordinator. Area officers of Divisions E and L, club officers of sister clubs in Jubail, toastmasters of the Jubail fraternity, and parents attended the event.
The winners in first, second and third places in each category were announced. In the International Speech category they were Dhivya Gunasekar, Momina Naveed and Mahek Kantharia. The Table Topics winners were Anupama Sudheer, Ahmed Amr Aly and Ali Manar Al-Ali. The Evaluation Speech winners were Hussain Najam Japan, Ishita Wadhwa and Priya Agarwal.
