A police official sustained minor injuries while attempting to intercept a vehicle on Taif road from entering Makkah on Friday.

Brig. Mohammed Al-Waleedi, chief of Taif Police Forces and head of the integrated inspection complex of security forces at Al-Baheetah in Taif, was injured as he tried to prevent a vehicle from entering Makkah.

Spokesperson of the regional police headquarters, Lt. Aati Al-Quraisi said in a statement on Saturday: “A vehicle on the Riyadh-Makkah highway ignored the checkpoint at Baheetah where Brig. Mohammed Al-Waleedi was checking incoming vehicles and sped away resulting in minor injuries to the official.”

He added that the speeding car rammed the check point and moved on with Al-Waleedi sustaining injuries during the course of action.

Makkah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah called the injured police chief to enquire about his health and wished him a speedy recovery, according to a report.

Six Pakistani pilgrims were also charged with offering a bribe of SR10,000 to Abdullah Al-Harbi a policeman posted near the Shumaisy checkpoint, to let them continue their journey into Makkah. However, Al-Harbi arrested them for not possessing Haj permits.

Maj. Gen. Abdulaziz Al-Souli, head of Makkah regional police, said earlier that the security forces are closely monitoring all passengers entering Makkah to prevent illegal pilgrims and do justice to the legitimate pilgrims.
