A top scholar told a forum here on Thursday that young people have a great responsibility toward enhancing the security of the country.

Addressing the forum on “Responsibility of the youth in upholding security,” Dean of the Shariah Faculty at Imam University Fahd Al-Daoud said that maintaining national security is not only the responsibility of the authorities but also of a preacher, professor, writer, poet and student.

“Everybody has to perform their duties in moderation so that there is no room for deviance or wayward thinking,” he noted, while calling for the principle of maintaining moderation and avoiding excesses.

He said if security and stability are maintained, people can perform their religious duties in peace without the fear of looting, plunder and assault. This underlines the importance of security and the consequent establishment of worship and obedience to God first, then obedience to the rulers, through compliance with the regulations and instructions.

“As citizens, we also have a big responsibility toward residents in this blessed country,” Al-Daoud said, adding: “Security is a great blessing of God who gives it to whom He will and is only felt by those who have lost it.”

"Everyone has to work hard to achieve the security and safety of their homeland, as they have to strive to achieve justice among people,” the scholar noted.

He said: “We have to fix our mistakes starting from ourselves and then try to be active members of society through fighting against malicious rumors because we are a monotheistic society.”

“The government’s goal is our country’s security through the creation of a positive mix of psychological and physical security which is reflected in the secure environment we live in,” he emphasized.
