RIYADH: Tourists visiting Jazan have been warned to be careful, specially when driving toward the mountain province of Fayfa because one of the main roads has dangerous curves which have led to death and injuries.

But what exacerbates the situation is the fact that this road does not have danger signs as it lacks warning panels or danger signs.

Residents of the region claimed that this has been the main reason for the accidents, adding that tourists and visitors from outside the province are the common victims, according to an online news.

“Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammed bin Nasser has sent a letter to the Department of Roads in the region to act and solve the problem,” they said. “However, the Department of Roads has not yet received the directive requesting for action regarding the problem,” they added.

They also claimed that they have avoided accidents despite the lack of warnings or danger signs because they have become familiar with the region’s main thoroughfares, particularly those leading to Fayfa whose main roads are carved out on mountain sides.

Because of the lack of warning signs, it is likely that a car could fall into a steep ravine several feet below, adding that the province’s road specifications are in accordance with internationally adopted standards, indicating that “all road management projects are still under implementation.”

They added that Jazan — called “Pearl of the South” — draws tourists from outside the region because it is a place of “generosity, kindness and fine hospitality.”

“It has high mountains with perennial green cover and they also include spectacular waterfalls that create beautiful lakes which are no less wonderful than the pristine beaches nearby,” they said.
