A train ran over several camels on the Riyadh-Dammam route, said the Saudi Railway Organization (SRO) confirming a report published on social media sites recently.

SRO’s media spokesman, Abu Zaid, said a cargo train which was going to Riyadh from Dammam ran down some camels which were crossing the railway tracks. The accident resulted in the deaths of the camels. No crew member was hurt, nor any damage was done to the train, he said.

Abu Zaid said Saudi laws prevent vehicles and animals from crossing the railway tracks.

“The local laws punish offenders through paying damages caused by camels or vehicles crossing the tracks,” he said, pointing out that the SRO has already warned camel owners about the violation and that they will be held responsible for such incidents.
