Two Filipino household service workers (HSWs) in Hail region have complained of contract violation and maltreatment against their employer.

They said they were hired as dressmakers by the Mayon International Trading Corporation in Malate, Manila, but were made to work as housemaids when they arrived in the Kingdom last year.

The two HSWs requested that their names and that of their employer be withheld pending investigation of their case.

They are not receiving a monthly salary of SR1,500 as stipulated in the agreement signed between the Philippines and the Kingdom in 2013, they claimed.

“Sometimes we receive SR1,200, sometimes SR1,300. It’s not fixed,” they told Arab News, adding that their employer had also not opened a bank account for them, in accordance with the Philippine-Saudi labor agreement.

They don’t have a day off, which is also mentioned in the agreement. But what’s worse is the fact that they are made to work for different families for 15 days each time.

“We work in our employer’s beauty shop . After a day or two, we leave to work as housemaid for another family and go back to the shop after 15 days.

We leave again to work for a family different from the one we had previously worked for,” they said. Their case has been referred to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in the Saudi capital.

“Aside from violating our contract, our employer also allowed her two daughters to hit us with a stick. She demanded that we turn in our cell phones to her,” they said.

When one of them refused, the employer forcibly took off her trousers, thinking that the cell phone was in her pockets.
