JEDDAH: The Specialized Penal Court in Jeddah on Tuesday issued a preliminary verdict on the imprisonment of two Saudi suspects to 38 years.

The first suspect was charged with firing on the police center in Awamiyah, Qatif Province, while the other was charged with participating in demonstrations that took place in Awamiyah and buying narcotic hashish and liquors.

The court implicated the first defendant of having received a pistol and ammunitions from another person and firing shots from the pistol at the gate of Awamiyah Police Center and its building from outside randomly.

He was also charged with receiving money from another person to join a series of demonstrations in Qatif and repeat anti-state slogans, which were considered as funding of terror and breach of security. He also did not report of a person, whom he knew, who was distributing alcohol. Based on the above, the court sentenced him to 30 years in prison from the date of his arrest. He was also banned from traveling abroad for 15 years following completion of his prison term.

Meanwhile, the second defendant was convicted of participating in demonstrations in Qatif, buying and using of narcotic hashish and liquor and giving coverage to those who sell hashish and liquor.

Accordingly, the court sentenced him to 8 years in prison from the date of his arrest, 80 lashes and banned him from traveling abroad for 8 years following completion of his prison term.
