JEDDAH: The Special Criminal Court has sentenced two Saudis to death for various offenses including disturbing public order and destabilizing the country’s internal security.

The two were were found guilty of possessing weapons and bombs in their apartment in Jeddah, where they were trained in using Kalashnikov rifles and manufacturing explosives. They were also convicted of failure to turn themselves in, armed resistance to police and attempting to kill police officers by firing nearly 60 shots.

The men were also found guilty of carrying out terrorist attacks and adopting takfiri ideology that runs counter to the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah by terming leaders of the country, religious scholars and policemen as nonbelievers.

Both were convicted of helping a number of people to travel to conflict zones in Iraq to participate in the fighting, taking part in the possession of unlicensed arms and ammunition, and collecting an amount of money which was used to finance terrorists in Iraq.

Aside from these, the first defendant was found guilty of recruiting youths to join Al-Qaeda by exploiting his knowledge in the aviation industry.

The second defendant was found guilty for escaping from prison along with a group of inmates, and willfully harboring and concealing them.
