The Saudi government has set up a program that would see scholarship students in the United Kingdom get in-house training at firms for one extra year, to ensure they gain some experience before returning home.

The program is for students on scholarships provided by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Foreign Scholarship Program. The Saudi Cultural Attaché in Britain has contacted several universities in the country to allow students to join the program.

The students can take up the training after one or two years of study, not including the year they spent learning English. It would extend their stay in the United Kingdom by one year, sources told a local publication recently.

The aim is to ensure that students are ready to take up jobs needed by the labor market in Saudi Arabia, and fulfill the requirement of firms that their new employees have some experience.
