RIYADH: A girl who holds British citizenship wants to drop a case of alleged torture, filed in a court in Britain, against her Saudi father.

She also expressed her desire to continue living in Saudi Arabia, and live a normal life just like an ordinary citizen.

The judge handling the case told the media that the court received an e-mail from the girl who asked that the charges filed against her father be dropped.

Earlier, the Daily Mail, a British newspaper, said the father, a Saudi academic, locked his daughter in her room, which amounted to mental torture, and shaved her head.

However, the British defense counsel representing the Saudi academic denied the allegations published in the British press.

The counsel told the court that the charges against the Saudi academic were figments of the girl’s imagination, adding that there was no way his client would shave his own daughter’s hair, nor lock her up in her own room in Jeddah.

He added that the father did not want his daughter to go back to Britain for her own safety and interest.

The counsel added, however, that the girl did not want to return to Britain because of her family’s fear that “she would go back to her previous life which nearly destroyed her.”

He did not elaborate what the girl’s previous life was.
