JEDDAH: The General Directorate of Traffic warned drivers of passing by school buses as students are getting on or off the bus.
Fines are expected to be imposed against violators in the coming days, which range from SR3,000 to SR 6,000 per offense, the directorate said.
Spokesman Tarek Al-Rubaian said drivers of vehicles must stop and not overtake school buses until they ensure all students have left or entered the bus.
He said the fines will take effect soon upon completion of the electronic and system link between the National Information Center, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Finance.
He said drivers of buses also sometime commit violations while children are being dropped off in front of their homes. He stressed the need to comply with regulations and stop close to sidewalks and houses in order to ensure the safety of school children.
