Six ambassadors and a deputy head of mission from Latin American countries and Europe attended the observance of the second death anniversary of former President Hugo Chavez at the Venezuelan Embassy in Riyadh on Thursday.

The envoys pay their tributes to the late Venezuelan president, saying Chavez was a charismatic leader who loved his people.

“Chavez could have achieved more for his country. It is unfortunate that he passed away so soon,” said Argentine Ambassador Jaime Sergio Cerda.

Cuban Ambassador Enrique Enriquez said: “Aside from being a good ruler, Chavez also worked quite well with other world leaders regarding certain causes.”

Ambassadors Eduardo Martinetti (Peru) , Carlos Mora (Uruguay), Manuel Corvelho (Portugal), Flavio Marega (Brazil) and Deputy Chief of Mission Tirzo Beltran (Mexico) also attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Venezuelan Ambassador Joseba Achutegui highlighted some of the major contributions Chavez played in maintaining peace and security in the region.

He said that a reason why Venezuelans love Chavez is because of the reforms he initiated, such as the equal distribution of wealth from oil among the people and free education specially for the poor students.
