RIYADH: Pursuant to a royal decree, the Ministry of Interior is working on the necessary documents to deport the Bangladeshi domestic aide who was arrested in Jeddah on a Dhaka murder charge, according to information received here from reliable sources.

Arab News learned that the royal decree to deport the suspect, Kamrul Islam, to his native country where the murder took place, was issued last week.

Bangladesh State Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Shahriar Alam, confirmed in a media release last week that the immediate deportation of the suspect will take place in two weeks time.

“The Saudi Royal Court approved the deportation of Kamrul Islam; it has already issued the directive to the Saudi chapter of Interpol. Additional paperwork should not take more than two weeks,” he said.

On complaints made by the Bangladesh government about the murder of a 13-year-old boy in Dhaka, Kamrul Islam, who was working as a driver for a Saudi family, was arrested in Jeddah on July 13. He is now detained at the Briman prison in Jeddah.

Interpol also issued a red notice to Saudi Arabia to return Bangladeshi murder suspect Kamrul Islam who is currently in police custody in Jeddah.

Interpol Bangladesh National Central Bureau (NCB) officials sent the necessary information about the incident to its counterpart, Saudi Arabian NCB.

The two countries do not have an extradition treaty between them.

The murder victim, Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, was tortured to death by a group in Kumargaon on the outskirts of Sylhet around 7:30 a.m. on July 8.

The suspect, who arrived in Jeddah following the killing, was arrested with the help of his Saudi sponsor.

Following the issue of a warrant, the Bangladesh government placed Kamrul Islam on the no-travel list following preliminary inquiry, but he fled to Saudi Arabia soon after his brother Muhit was detained on July 8.

The murder case was filed in this regard by Jalalabad police, in which Rajon’s father later became a plaintiff.

Muhit was listed as the prime suspect in the case, while his brother Kamrul Islam, 24, their accomplice Ali Haider, 34, and guard Moyna Miah, 45, were charged with murder.

Muhit’s cousin, Ismail Hossain Abullus, was also detained in connection with the incident.

A 28-minute video, recorded on a mobile phone, shows the victim tied to a pole in front of a workshop in the then-closed Sultan Ali Market, beside the Dhaka-Sunamganj road.

From the video, it seemed there were five to six men who took part in the torture of the victim. Informed about the crime, police went to the spot and took Muhit into custody and recovered Rojan’s body from a minibus.
