The Administrative Court in Riyadh, also known as the Court of Grievances, has launched a probe into the withdrawal of a citizen and his family’s identity cards by the Ministry of Interior.

The court had sent an inquiry on the matter to the ministry seven months ago but received no response, a local Arabic newspaper reported recently.

The civil affairs department, which falls under the ministry, said the man, Khalid Said Al-Sarkhi, had obtained his documents illegally, the paper said.

Earlier, the interior ministry had questioned the man on how he had obtained his identity cards. The ministry had been satisfied with his explanation at that time, and indicated he would not be charged with any crime, the paper said.

However, the decision to retain or withdraw the identity card was now in the hands of the minister of interior. If his are withdrawn, he would be registered as “husband of a citizen,” the paper said.

Al-Sarkhi reportedly said his family’s identity cards were withdrawn four years ago and since then he has been suffering. His eldest son now faces being suspended from school because he does not have the required documents, the paper quoted him as saying.
