New details have emerged about the recent killing of a Saudi student in the United States.

Eyewitnesses have confirmed that 20-year-old Marwan Hinnawi, a Saudi scholarship student in Cookeville, Tennessee, had deliberately run over his compatriot, Mohamed Badi, 22, with his car.

According to bystanders, Hinnawi had gotten into his car, which was parked on the far side of a parking lot, and charged toward Badi despite the victim waving for him to stop.

Badi was transferred to a nearby hospital, but died two hours later.

A photograph that appeared in a local magazine shows Hinnawi’s Mustang with a dent at the front of the car, not the back as previously suspected.

Hinnawi reportedly stopped the car only after two policemen forced him to pull over before arresting him.

The fresh details into the case are expected to feature prominently in preliminary hearings on Wednesday.

Other evidence includes blood test results, which will determine whether or not Hinnawi was intoxicated at the time of the murder since authorities said that he smelt of alcohol at the time of arrest.

If tests are found positive, Hinnawi faces charges of manslaughter on the grounds that he had committed the crime under the influence.

The defendant may face anywhere between one and six years in prison and a $3,000 fine under Tennessee law. Badi was studying for a degree in financial management at the Tennessee Technological University and had only a year to go before graduating, according to the paper.
