JAZAN: A Yemeni woman (A.M.) has once again experienced freedom and a renewed sense of hope in life after reuniting with her family last week on her release from Jazan General Prison, where she spent six years on charges of murder of a citizen in the region.

She was overcome with joy after a delegation of women representing the National Commission for the Care of Inmates, Released Prisoners and Their Families (Tarahom) informed her of a court decision finding her innocent and congratulated her on her release.

The head of the women’s delegation at the Commission, Aisha bint Shaker Al-Zakari, said the case passed through long stages of investigations, hearings and litigation, during which family members of the victim continued to insist on her punishment.

The case finally came to a close, however, after the Jazan General Court issued a ruling for the defendant’s release and deportation to her home country to prevent retribution.

The court ruling was ratified by the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, as well as approved by a royal decree.

Prior to her departure, the inmate (A.M.) expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the officials at the department of the General Directorate of Prisons in Jazan and supervisors at the female inmate dormitory for their care, support, and investment in the well-being of all inmates through various activities and initiatives.

She also thanked the woman’s delegation at the Commission for following up on her case over the years until the moment of her release.
