RIYADH: The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has managed to reduce work-related accidents among its employees by 16 percent compared to figures of the previous year, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
This success reflects the company’s achievements in implementing a five-star global safety program as part of its accelerated strategic transformation scheme, said Eng. Aish Al-Shammari, senior vice president of SEC for general services.
He said the remarkable reduction was achieved even when the company had gone through an enormous expansion, including distribution networks, power transfers, and production plants to meet the growing demand for electricity in the Kingdom.
He said the five-star safety program is applied by reputable global companies, and it consists of accurate standards and measures, and depends on full supervision from higher managements of these firms.
Al-Shammari said the company organized some 1,693 awareness programs on safety and firefighting areas, with more than 28,027 employees and contractors taking part in them.
Meanwhile, the company carried out 6,789 safety inspections on its work sites during which 26,390 technical problems were identified and solved in a professional manner to ensure the safety of the work environment, he said.
The company has also installed and activated an automatic system to monitor its vehicles around the clock to ensure they are compliant with traffic-safety measures, he said.
The company continuously organizes awareness programs related to safety and firefighting in the Kingdom, he said.
Last month, it launched a nationwide campaign for electrical safety in the context of its social responsibility. The three-month campaign aimed to raise awareness of indoor and outdoor home electrical safety.
