Petrofac Saudi Arabia in Jazan is organizing a driving course to curb unsafe and reckless driving on the roads and increase motorists’ awareness of road safety.

“There is zero tolerance for unsafe and reckless driving at Petrofac,” Daniel-Brian Murteda, the company’s manager for training and development told Arab News.

He said this is even more important in remote areas near oil and gas construction sites where driving can be extremely challenging.

Murteda, a certified NSC trainer said that these courses are attempting to instill good driving habits and raise awareness of staying safe in a vehicle.

According to him, Petrofac Saudi Arabia’s training and development department has been certified to deliver the internationally-recognized course by the USA’s National Safety Council (NSC).

“Safety is Petrofac’s core company value and we take safety very seriously in everything we do,” he said.

Citing the ongoing training, he said Saudis in Jazan are benefitting from latest international training strategies and techniques to become safe drivers, thanks to a special Petrofac program near the Baish construction site for the new Jazan Refinery.

“The defensive driving module is one of many courses created by NSC and the driving courses are part of the wider technical construction training syllabus that Petrofac is delivering to the 82 young trainees in the Baish area,” he said.

The training focuses on changing the driver’s mindset to stay safe while driving; be proactively ready to avoid a collision or crash and use a set of NSC copyrighted principles to stay uninjured and alive behind the wheel.

In addition to the Jazan construction trainees program, defensive driving is also being delivered to Saudi engineers and employees in Petrofac’s other locations in Saudi Arabia.
