JEDDAH: Unidentified people in Taif exploited the first day of Ramadan to play on other people’s feelings by disguising in religious outfits, flattering children and widows to gain their compassion, and managed to collect up to SR11,000, a local publication reported.
Young men aged between 25 to 35 years, hiding the features of their faces, handed out letters to people on the streets asking for money, saying that they are the only providers for their families with no income, that they must pay the installment on their houses and that they hoped to find help among compassionate Muslims.
In their letters they cited a Hadith to attract the sympathy of others to collect money.
Many officials and prominent figures in the judiciary appealed to citizens not to raise money for anonymous parties, demanding that the competent security authorities put limits on these irregularities especially during Ramadan, arrest these people and open investigations into the ways of collecting money.
