The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has awarded two power contracts, worth SR 435 million ($ 116 million) to Alstom Grid.
The projects, based in Madinah, involves the construction of a new 380/110/13.8kV bulk supply point (BSP) called Al-Salam BSP and its associated 380kV circuits.
The two projects are aimed at meeting the rapidly growing electricity demand in Madinah. The project will cover the interconnection between Al-Salam BSP and other 380kV BSPs in the national grid network — MDN (Madinah North) 380KV BSP, PS2 (Pumping Station-2) 380KV BSP, YNB3 (Yanbu-3) 380KV BSP, MDS (Madinah South) 380KV BSP, MDE (Madinah East).
“This is SEC’s first 380 KV project since 2007,” said a release from the company. “This project is part of the Kingdom’s grid interconnection plan and it is expected to improve the electricity network in Madinah effectively meeting the increase in demand.”
Alstom Grid has been in the Kingdom for more than 30 years and has brought strong capabilities in engineering, manufacturing and project management. In addition, it has supplied products and solutions for grid and power through its strong tie-up with the SEC.
Alstom currently has five reporting units, three operating sites and three sales offices in the Kingdom. Under the government’s program to strengthen the Kingdom’s energy infrastructure, Alstom Grid turnkey projects will increase the capacity and efficiency of the electrical grid in the central part of the Kingdom.
Among Alstom Grid’s successes are the delivery of the world’s largest gas-insulated substation and the Gulf’s largest high voltage direct current converter station (3x600 MW) interconnecting the six member GCC states.
