RIYADH: Health Minister Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah has appointed a special medical team to evaluate the health condition of Abdullah Faisal Al-Onaizi, a child admitted to a government hospital complaining of acute pain in his spine.
Al-Onaizi was admitted to the King Saud Medical City. He was suffering from severe pain in his neck and limbs. According to MRI report, the child was suffering from a tumor in his spinal cord.
The medical team comprises Dr. Mahmoud Yamani, head of the national center for neurosciences at the King Fahd Medical City; Ali Saeed Al-Amri, head of hematology and oncology at the King Abdulaziz Medical City at National Guard; Tariq Al-Eid, head of pediatric intensive care unit at the King Faisal Specialist hospital; and Dr. Saleh Al-Shehri, consultant for pediatric intensive care.
According to the statement released by the Ministry of Health in Riyadh, the committee’s task was to ascertain the condition of the patient with the help of clinical tests. The committee was also charged with exploring the possibility of treating the patient in one of the specialized hospitals in the Kingdom.
According to the minister’s directive, clinical tests concentrated on oncologic, neurological and pediatric diagnosis. Treatment was conducted at the King Abdulaziz Medical City at National Guard. The parents of the child patient were also consulted by the committee to discuss the treatment that could be given to the patient.
The medical tests conducted by the team confirmed that the patient had severe pains in his neck and suffered from weakness in his limbs. The team decided to carry out a re-test to confirm the tumor in the spinal cord.
An official from the Ministry of Health said that the medical team would decide the next course of action that would be taken in the treatment of the patient.
