JEDDAH: ALBAIK Food Systems Company has once again partnered with ASTEC (Association of Tennis Clubs in Jeddah) for the annual year-ending 2016 tennis tournament to underline eight years of cooperation through sports activities.
The 8th ALBAIK Team Tennis Tournament at the sprawling facilities of the Trio-Ranch Country Club with 5 tennis courts was launched last Friday highlighted by the traditional parade of teams in their resplendent uniforms. Chief guest on the occasion was Consul General Imelda H. Panolong of the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah. Also present was Bassam Al-Seyofi, PR manager of AlBaik Food Systems who thanked all attendees and participants as well as Astec for the continued partnership in providing quality events to the tennis community in Jeddah.
The opening day trophies to go up for grabs for Best in Uniform went to Elaf Group (Category “Middle Mix” and “B2”), Tornadoes (Category C), Uricane Tennis Club (Lower Mix), and Jeddah Ranao Tennis Club-JRTC (Category “B1”).
Apart from giveaways from co-sponsors such as, tennis racquet, balls and bags from Deltaz Marketing, Albaik meal coupons, tennis items from ATP-Mon and Sports Track, and cargo vouchers from Sky Freight Forwarders, Qatar Airways, a co-sponsor of the event, also raffled off a return air ticket to Manila that was won by Carlos Miguel Ordonez, son of tennis player from Hidada team Jun Ordonez. Carlos Miguel received the ticket certificate from Qatar Airways representatives Mr. Mansour and Jeanette Cerbito who obliged the audience with a rendition of an OPM pop song. Intermission dance number was provided by Jeddah Knight Movers followed by a song from Sheena Montero.
After the rites an exhibition singles match between Jeddah’s professional Class A players followed, pitting Filipino Rico Gonzales against Spanish Andrews Gallego, who won by 10-9, 10-4. Cash prizes were award to both players.
The tournament to run until Nov. 5 has attracted 46 teams teams (40 men’s teams and 6 for the Ladies Division) despite the distant location of the venue from the city center.
Organized by ASTEC under the helm of its current Chairman Bernie Soguilon, Tournament Director Tonton Pana, and Francis Idjao and Jun Atienza as advisers, this 29th Astec tournament is presented in partnership with ALBAIK Food Systems, Inc., and is supported by Deltaz Marketing, Sky Freight Forwarders, Sports Track, and Qatar Airways.
