While on the face of it, a short time trial followed by a short road race would not be expected to unduly worry the membership of the Riyadh Wheelers, it was in fact the severe wind which turned the 2-Stage Event into a test of survival, with only the fittest able to maintain a good average.

Combining the two disciplines into one day is a popular format, which ensures the specialists from both branches of the sport are able to shine. To win both stages demands an exceptional all-round ability, with Hill Climb champion Kris Ahlin proving once again he is the man in form by delivering a clean sweep.

Taking a rare second place was an under the weather Thierry Mathy, who admitted he struggled to hold the wheel of the flying Ahlin. Top road rider Geron Guanlao, by improving his time trialing over the summer achieved another fine podium position against some good opposition.

Consistent George Morete managed to keep on the road which rewarded him his best result this season, just ahead of Cat B star Anna Marie Watson, who edged out partner Ben Psaila for the first time. Next came a group of up and coming contenders who have trained well and are reaping the rewards of their hard work, led by Andy Wilson astride his new machine. The Senior category opened up unexpectedly for Paul McParland with the non-starting of Rob Patrick and the non-finishing of Jiri Kuba, enabling this prolific Riyadh sportsman to claim the title just ahead of another Senior, former International Gordon Lawrie.
