JEDDAH. Nezar Al Hamwi’s dazzling performance in game two enabled him to bag the men’s title while Lanie Zamora’s ignition, also in game two, favored her for the ladies crown as they defensively blocked pursuers on the third and concluding game of the FEDBG the Bowler of the Year finals at the Bowling City here.

Al Hamwi started his quest in March failing to place on the overall monthly tournament till December. But the desperado phase enlivened Al Hamwi’s chance for the title. Bowling against the monthly champions, placers and fellow desperados, Al Hamwi survived the last opportunity with 926 on sterling games of 248, 222, 203 and 265. Rod Lofamia joined Al Hamwi with 841 disappointing nearest pursuers Ally Ibn 836, Serge Rivera 823 and Abdulfata Mogawan 810. Qualifying from monthly champions are Suhaime Leong (889) and Emil Payongayong (875). Hassan Suqati (838) and Rudy Valenzuela (837) carried it on from the placers division.

On the six-bowler race three-game with handicap sudden death finals, Suqati bears the flag with 233 as Al Hamwi trailed right behind with 225. But a 253 outburst seized Alhamwi of the top position at 478. Suqati slowed down at second place with 419 and Leong leapfrogged from 6th to 3rd with 393 on a 243 upsurge. Finalists tried getting nearer to top but the ultimate was not that favorable so that though Al Hamwi cooled off at 177 he clinched the FEDBG male Bowler of the year at 3-game totals of 655. Suqati sustained second with 609 followed by Leong (582), Lofamia (572), Valenzuela (559) and Payongayong (550).

In the ladies division, Zamora started lousily at No.3 with 167 looking up to Mariz Resano and Nurissa Ramos who posted early on top with 209 and 193. But picking up her momentum at 215, Zamora grabbed the banner with 382 pushing Resano to second with 364 in the second salvo. Eloisa Fernandez showed 220 contentions to jump from cellar to third with 362 then bowled profusely on the ultimate aiming to bulldoze Zamora’s great lead. But firing a 229, Fernandez could only protect the second place with 591 as Zamora returned 243 to jubilantly become the FEDBG lady Bowler of 2013 on three-game with handicap totals of 625. Ramos was third with 538, Resano was fourth with 536 and Ester Santoc was fifth with 514.
