JEDDAH: Aljuf Toyota and BMG, both strong contenders in the Non-Rated Strong Division, beat separate opponents as the elimination round continued in the 2nd Orient Watch Cup and 13th Filsama Basketball League at Rawdah court on Madinah Road here.
Jimmy Abdullah Beltran’s Aljuf squad hammered out a 102-92 victory over Jeddah All Stars with Villegas leading a trio with double figures on 20 points. Gino Cilot added 14 and Reyes had 12 points for Aljuf.
All Stars fell short despite getting a game-high 31 points from Esteves in addition to 16 from Allan Rey and 13 from Villanueva.
In another Non-Rated Strong Division game, Tau Gamma defeated Silent Assassin 83-78. The leading scorers for Tau Gamma were Macalaba with 19 points, Macapundi 18 and Bong Bacarat 17. Caladiao, Dedase and Recasa with 13, 10 and 9 points in that order carried the load for the Assassin.
Aljouf’s win came after BMG opened its campaign with back-to-back wins over Tau Gamma 107-78 and Jeddah All Stars 105-74 to complete a weekend double in the tournament exclusively sponsored by the Orient Watch brand under the Al-Hussaini and Al-Yahya Investment Group.
In winning against Tau Gamma by a big margin of 29 points, BMG got 24 points from Sam Manalang to go with the 22 by veteran Nanding Unas and 19 by Ali, a fast-rising player from Maguindanao. For Tau Gamma, Coloma scored 23 points while Macapundi had 15 and Versosa 9 points.
BMG enjoyed an even better game against the All Stars with Ali this time leading the way with 24 points followed by Manalang with 16 and Unas with 13. Rey tallied 24 points for All Stars while Villanueva and Santos each had 10 points.
The All Stars managed a split for the week following their 91-82 victory over Jeddah Brothers mainly to the duo of Esteves and Villanueva who scored 27 and 25 points.
Silent Assassin also earned its first win at the expense of SMDC 104-92. Velasquez top-scored for Assassin with 30 points, while J. Recasa had 19 and Alex 8 points.
In the centerpiece Open B Reinforced Division, Egypt outsteadied Lebanese community basketball team 54-47 in a low-scoring game.
Big Fadi Al-Taweel and Mohammad Fauzi each scored 11 points at the head of the Egypt offense. For the Lebanese, Al-Kheir scored 10 points while Al-Qubaisi and Hendawi each added 9 points.
