JEDDAH: In preparation for the forthcoming annual team tennis tournament, ASTEC (Association of Tennis Clubs in Jeddah) embarked on a weekly road tour of various tennis clubs in Jeddah.
The objective of visiting various clubs on a dual-meet two-day tournament concept is to foster the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship between ASTEC and its member-clubs and to seek assistance from the tennis community for any support to compatriots and club-members who are affected by the current problems in their employment.
The dual-meet will also serve as tune-up matches for the year-ending 29th ASTEC Team Tennis Tournament 2016, which will start on Sept. 23 at the Trio-Ranch Country Club in partnership with Albaik Food Express and is expected to conclude by Nov. 12.
The weekend road tour began its first leg in early August at Hidada Tennis Club, which was hosted by its club president Albert Arriesgado. The second-leg of the tour was held at the SGS Tennis Club facilities with 18 pairs participating and SGS prevailing over ASTEC 5-3, 5-3 set scores in the two-day dual meet.
The third leg was hosted by Zuhair Fayez Tennis Club over the weekend, which fielded 15 pairs in categories C/C, Lower Mix, Middle Mix and Ladies pair, plus an exhibition match between Class A2 players, Ariel Baguinon and Aries Feliciano, in which the latter prevailed by 8-3 score. As with the first two road tours at Hidada and SGS, ASTEC awarded a Plaque of Appreciation to Abdullah Miswak, sports coordinator of ZF Tennis Club, at the end of the 2-day tournament for hosting the event.
ASTEC hits the road next week at the tennis courts of ATP-Mon, DP World, SOGTC, and winds up the tour at Saudia City Tennis Club.
