HOUSTON: Evan Gattis homered twice as the Houston Astros beat the Seattle Mariners 7-6 for their 10th straight victory in Major League Baseball on Sunday, the team’s longest winning streak since capturing 12 in a row in 2004.

Houston tops the American League standings at 18-7, setting a team record for its best record through 25 games. The Astros are coming off a 70-92 season, which followed three straight years of at least 106 losses.

Gattis’ go-ahead solo homer in the eighth off Carson Smith (0-1) was his fifth homer in six games.

Pat Neshek (2-0) pitched a scoreless eighth for the win.

In other games, Baltimore topped Tampa Bay 4-2 to win a series that was moved to Florida after riots broke out in the Orioles’ home city, the New York Yankees completed a series sweep of Boston with an 8-5 win, St. Louis matched its best start in 115 years with a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh, and San Francisco completed a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels with a 5-0 win.

Adam Jones got four hits, including a tiebreaking single in the seventh, as Baltimore took two of three in the series shifted to Tampa Bay’s Tropicana Field from Camden Yards.

The games were moved when rioting broke out in Baltimore following the funeral of Freddie Gray, who died in police custody after a spinal cord injury.

“There’s more people in Baltimore that are facing tougher hardships than we’re facing,” Jones said. “You’ve got to look at the people that actually have to face some hardships. Those are the people back in Baltimore right now.”

Jimmy Paredes’ RBI double with two outs made it 2-all in the bottom of the seventh. Jones was up next and he delivered a two-run single, tying his career high for hits in a game.

In Boston, Jacoby Ellsbury had four hits and Adam Warren took a one-hit shutout into the sixth inning to lead New York.

The Yankees swept the Red Sox in a series of three games or more for the first time since a five-game sweep in 2006.

Ellsbury was also hit by a pitch and walked, reaching base a career-high six times. Mark Teixeira and Brett Gardner homered for the Yankees, who led 8-0 and then held on for their 13th win in 16 games.

St. Louis, meanwhile, improved to a league-best 18-6 with its win over Pittsburgh. The Cardinals matched their best 24-game start since 1900, which they also achieved in 1941 and 1944.

Kolten Wong homered off Radhames Liz (1-2) in the 14th inning to help the Cardinals become the first team to sweep a three-game series with all extra-inning wins since Cincinnati did it against the Boston Braves from June 4-7, 1925.

Pedro Alvarez homered in the Pittsburgh 12th inning before the Cardinals tied it on a bases-loaded single by Peter Bourjos in the bottom half.

San Francisco’s Tim Lincecum (2-2) pitched three-hit ball over eight innings, walking one and striking out four in eight scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.40.

Nori Aoki and Joe Panik hit consecutive first-inning home runs off Jered Weaver (0-4), who gave up five runs and 10 hits in five innings.

The Giants have won eight of 11 following a 4-10 start.

Elsewhere, Aramis Ramirez homered for Milwaukee and broke an eighth-inning tie with a two-run single off Pedro Strop (0-1) to lead the Brewers past the Chicago Cubs 5-3.

Hours after the game, Milwaukee fired manager Ron Roenicke despite the fact the Brewers took two of three against the Cubs for their first series win of the year. Milwaukee is a league-worst 7-18.

Oakland’s Stephen Vogt hit a solo homer and a three-run drive and Sonny Gray (4-0) extended his shutout streak against Texas to 23 2-3 innings as the Athletics beat the Rangers 7-1. Gray pitched 6 2-3 innings of two-hit ball despite a career-high seven walks.

Texas, the only team in MLB without consecutive wins this year, was 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position.
