Filipino Emmanuel Bautista scored arguably the biggest victory in his golfing career when he was crowned overall champion in the Lufthansa Monthly Medal golf tournament at the Palms Golf Club, InterContinental Riyadh last Friday.

Bautista shot over one of his best rounds on the City Center layout, a 1 under par 55 net, to outplay everyone else in the 18-hole stroke play competition in pleasantly cool conditions. The tournament was sponsored by Lufthansa German Airlines.

For his feat, Bautista took home the championship crystal trophy along with a return air ticket to Europe.

Harald Hahn, Lufthansa director Saudi Arabia, Bahrain & Yemen, handed out the prizes to the winners assisted by Mounir Melliti, InterContinental Hotel recreation manager.

Hahn said the new Premium Economy seats which were specially flown in from Germany were on display to show customers this new product from Lufthansa.

He added: “In fact, Lufthansa’s Premium Economy Class will come to the Middle East in 2015 creating a completely new travel experience that combines affordability with greater comfort. The seats offer up to 50 percent more room than Economy Class and will position Lufthansa as a leader in offering premium service in all four classes of service.”

“Our passengers’ convenience and comfort are paramount to us. More and more personalization is being rolled out to provide our customers a complete and individualized travel experience from the time they book up until their arrival. And for 2015, our customers will soon enjoy the full spectrum of our new product offerings on board, with the latest in cabin designs,” said Hahn.

In the Division A 0-6 category handicap, Roy Evans and Danny Naval, both handicap 6 golfers, were tied on 63 net. During the countback Evans won the division championship while Naval settled for runner-up position.

In the Division B (handicap 7-12) Banjamin Santuyo scored level par 56 level to win the championship with Bob Bruford runner-up on 60.

In Division C all time InterContinental favorite Javier Chamorro won with a 58 net from Phaldie Peterson who bagged the runner-up position on 59 net.

The Ladies Division crown went to Kin Jin Soon and division runner–up to Petra Hahn.

Winning the nearest to the pin awards were Julian Bennett and Alan Stark.

Asst. Golf Club Manager Baby Joseph thanked the sponsor, players, InterContinental Hotel GM Tariq Dowidar and all other participants of the event during the prize distribution ceremony. Club professional Mohamed Anwar Naz helped run the event.

The awarding ceremony ended with a sumptuous brunch.
