The Bangladesh international School Jeddah English Section (BISJ-ES) organized a sports week to promote a healthy lifestyle. The five-day event ends on Thursday.
The students of the four houses Red, Blue, Green and Yellow participated in the opening of the sports week Sunday with a lot of enthusiasm. They will pit skills in different sports such as races, relay races, football, basketball, gymnastics, badminton, a march-past contest, scouts activities and many more throughout the week.
Nasser Davids, e principal of the BISJ-ES, said that the main aim of the school sports week is to make the students understand the importance of physical activities for a healthy mind and body.
Davids said in his welcome speech that sports and physical activities are very important for a healthy lifestyle and for mental health and physical growth.
“I am thankful to our sports teachers for organizing this sports week. Although we don’t have a lot of space the students and teachers’ participation in the sports activities is admirable. As physical activities are important for a healthy mind and body, sports should be the fundamental aspect of our lives,” he said.
Sumaya Rafeek, a student, gave a speech on the importance of physical activities and sports. “Participating in sports week is very important for everyone. Sports teach us the true spirit of competition, dealing fairly without thinking of success or failure, and training to improve ourselves. It also enhances gender equality,” she said.
The program opened with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Tasneem Naeema under the supervision of Ms. Hani Adam and Feroza Rafeek. The chief guest Nazneen Baygum, wife of the school chairman, and honorable guest Amelia Meruno Davids, wife of the school principal did the flag hoisting ceremony with the assistance of Naeema and Mona Waziullah.
Marwa Waziullah led the oath of sportsmanship followed by the Olympic torch run by Abebah, Mediha, Isra Tasneem and Nabila Hussain under the supervision of Ms. Seema and Ms. Hani Adam.
Baygum congratulated the students for the organization of the sports week and declared the formal opening of the sports week. She also stressed on the development of sportsmanship and teamwork.
Mohammed Kaykobad and Ms. Hani Adam delivered speeches on the importance and benefits of sports. This was followed by an instrumental display of the primary section supervised by Maimoona Massarath, Saira Rizwan, Arshia Jabeen, Nahid Salma and Hira Shahzad.
A dance by Y1 and Y2 students was followed by a Bangladeshi traditional dance presented by the Y3 and Y5 girls under the supervision of Ms. Nazmunnahar.
An Islamic poem recited by Y3 girls, a dance by the boys of Y5 and Y6 and a mini drama by Y5 boys was also presented to entertain the audience under the supervision of Ms. Asma , Ms. Amal and Ms. Sameer.
Dr. Jajaluddin — vice chairman of BISJ, Eng. Gulam Server, board member, Amir Mohammed , head of education, scouts teacher, Rumi Sayed, Abdul Kaium — Vice Principal of BISJ and Firoz Alam, student counselor, attended the opening ceremony.
