ST. LOUIS: St. Louis’ Kevin Shattenkirk scored in the shootout to give the Blues a 5-4 win against Nashville on Thursday, trimming the Predators’ lead atop the NHL Central Division to four points.

The top two in the other Western Conference division, the Pacific, also clashed, with San Jose beating Anaheim to eat into the Ducks’ still-comfortable lead.

In the big games in the East, Tampa Bay went back to the top of the conference by convincingly beating Detroit, moving ahead of the New York Islanders, who were beaten at home by Boston.

St. Louis got goals in regulation from Jaden Schwartz, T.J. Oshie, Steve Ott and Ryan Reaves and improved to eight wins and an overtime loss in the past nine games.

Mike Fisher had two goals and an assist for Nashville, while Filip Forsberg and James Neal also scored for the Predators, who finished with a 3-1-1 record against the Blues this season.

San Jose scored five goals in the second period in beating Anaheim 6-3.

Patrick Marleau, Barclay Goodrow and James Sheppard each had a goal and an assist, while Joe Pavelski scored in the first as the Sharks improved to 4-0-1 against the division-leading Ducks this season.

Andrew Cogliano, Matt Beleskey and Patrick Maroon scored for the Ducks, who had won their previous six games but fell again at a familiar hurdle, having lost on their past seven visits to San Jose.

Tampa Bay extended its home winning streak to a franchise record nine games by beating Detroit 5-1.

Cedric Paquette scored his first hat trick while Steven Stamkos and Mark Barberio also netted for the Lightning, who leapfrogged the Red Wings into first place in the Atlantic Division by a point.

Paquette has four goals in two games after a scoring drought of 29 games.

Darren Helm scored for Detroit, which had won six in a row.

Boston’s Kevan Miller scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period and the Bruins went on to win 5-2 at the Islanders.

Goaltender Tuukka Rask stopped 43 shots while Reilly Smith, Patrice Bergeron, Torey Krug and Zdeno Chara also scored for Boston.

John Tavares and Michael Grabner scored for New York, which lost at home for only the fifth time this season.

Montreal’s Max Pacioretty scored with 4:17 left to give the Canadiens a 1-0 win at the New York Rangers.

Pacioretty converted a wrist shot from above the right circle that appeared to surprise Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, squeezing inside the right post.

That was enough to move the Canadiens into joint second in the Atlantic, a point behind leader Tampa Bay.

Philadelphia won its fourth game in five by beating Winnipeg 5-2.

Wayne Simmonds, Chris VandeVelde, Nick Schultz and Brayden Schenn scored for the Flyers, who are making a late bid to work into playoff contention. Sean Couturier added an empty-netter.

Mathieu Perreault scored twice for the Jets.

Minnesota’s Zach Parise scored in the first period and that proved enough for the Wild to beat Calgary 1-0.

Dallas’ Jamie Benn scored twice as the Start beat Ottawa 6-3 in Jason Spezza’s first game at the Senators since he was traded to the Stars in the offseason.

Florida snapped a five-game losing skid by beating Columbus 3-2, with Sean Bergenheim scoring late in the third period.

Arizona rallied for a 3-1 win at Toronto, with Oliver Ekman-Larsson scoring off the opening faceoff of the third period.

Edmonton’s Anton Lander scored his first goal of the season to help the Oilers defeat Buffalo 3-2 in a clash of the league’s two bottom teams.
