LOS ANGELES: Kobe Bryant scored 26 points and Carlos Boozer added 19, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 98-91 preseason victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday night.

Boozer also had nine rebounds and six of the Lakers’ 17 steals. Los Angeles converted 29 Jazz turnovers into 34 points and outscored them 17-8 in second-chance points.

Alec Burks scored 21 for the Jazz, who had only one field goal after his jumper with 5:16 remaining. Enes Kanter had 14 points in 38 minutes before fouling out with 15.2 seconds left.

The lead changed hands six times in the fourth quarter before Ed Davis’ hook shot put the Lakers ahead for good at 86-85 with 4:50 to play. Wayne Ellington added two free throws and a 3-pointer that extended the margin to 91-85 with 2:50 remaining, and Bryant helped close it out with five free throws in the final 1:24.

Rockets 90 Warriors 83: In Hidalgo, Texas, James Harden had 15 points and seven rebounds to help the Houston Rockets beat the Golden State Warriors 90-83 in an exhibition game Sunday night.

Trevor Ariza added 13 points, and Dwight Howard had 11 points and eight rebounds in limited action for the Rockets (4-1).

Justin Holiday led Golden State (4-2) with 18 points, and Nemanja Nedovic had 16.

Bulls 101 Hornets 96: In Chicago, Kirk Hinrich scored 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting and the Chicago Bulls beat the Charlotte Hornets 101-96 in an exhibition game Sunday night.

Pau Gasol added 15 points and 10 rebounds to help the Bulls (4-2) win their fourth straight game.

The Bulls led by 18 and entered the fourth up 83-70, but Charlotte rallied to cut it to one with 1:30 left on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s three-point play. Derrick Rose answered with a jumper and, after the teams traded misses, Charlotte’s Gary Neal missed a potential tying 3-pointer with 13 seconds left.

Rose had 17 points in almost 28 minutes and saw his first action in the fourth quarter as he comes back from a right knee injury 10 games into last season.

Lance Stephenson and Kidd-Gilchrist led the Hornets (3-3) with 14 points. Stephenson returned to the Charlotte lineup after missing a game because of a strain right groin.

Timberwolves 112 Thunder 94: In Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mo Williams scored 19 points in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 112-94 exhibition victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night.

Kevin Martin, Ricky Rubio and Robbie Hummel each added 13 points for Minnesota (2-2). Martin, playing against his former team, made his preseason debut before 16,901 fans at the BOK Center.

Perry Jones scored 21 points for Oklahoma City (2-4). Russell Westbrook had 11 points in 23 minutes, and Serge Ibaka finished with 12 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes.

Celtics 95 Nets 90: In New York, Jared Sullinger had 21 points and 19 rebounds to help the Boston Celtics beat the Brookyln Nets 95-90 on Sunday in an experimental 44-minute game.

Jeff Green added 14 points for Boston (4-3).

Backup point guard Jarrett Jack and reserve center Jerome Jordan each had 17 points for the Nets (2-1).

The idea of a shortened game arose during the NBA coaches’ offseason meeting as a way to analyze and compare the flow of the game with that of the league-standard 48 minutes.

While an average game takes 2 hours, 15 minutes, the game Saturday took 1 hour, 58 minutes. Instead of the customary 12-minute quarters, Sunday’s game featured four 11-minute periods along with a reduction of mandatory timeouts from three to two during the second and fourth quarters.

The opening quarter was played in 19 minutes, the second in 29 minutes, and the third and fourth in 25 minutes each.
