ST. LOUIS: A federal investigation into possible computer hacking by the Cardinals failed to slow down Major League Baseball’s best team as St. Louis extended its winning streak to five by beating the Minnesota Twins 3-2 on Tuesday.

Before the game, manager Mike Matheny said he was in the weight room when he first learned of the investigation into whether the Cardinals hacked Houston’s computer database. The Cardinals completed a soggy homestand in which three games were delayed and another against Kansas City was postponed until July 23.

St. Louis is 43-22 overall and 26-7 at home, both tops in MLB.

Robinson Chirinos hit a game-ending home run leading off the bottom of the ninth inning for the Texas Rangers to beat the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2.

It was a popular scoreline for the day, as the New York Mets beat Toronto 3-2 to maintain their buffer atop the NL East ahead of Washington, which scored 16 runs to crush Tampa Bay.

The Dodgers tied the game at Texas in the top of the ninth when Justin Turner hit a two-run homer off rookie starter Chi Chi Gonzalez, who came close to his second complete game and first shutout in only his fourth career start.

Chirinos responded when he sent a 1 ball-1 strike pitch from Josh Ravin over the left-center field wall to end it.

The Rangers won both home games against the Dodgers, and the teams play again on Wednesday and Thursday in Los Angeles.

Mets pitcher Matt Harvey returned to form with seven scoreless innings and an RBI double with the bat against Toronto.

Harvey (7-4), who was 1-3 with a 7.20 ERA in his previous four starts, shut down the best offense in MLB.

The Mets won for the fifth time in six games and improved to 11-0 at home against the Blue Jays.

Washington’s Wilson Ramos homered twice off position players pressganged into pitching duties, while Bryce Harper and Clint Robinson also went deep as the Nationals routed Tampa Bay 16-4.

With the game out of reach, Rays manager Kevin Cash rested his relievers and used infielders Jake Elmore and Nick Franklin to pitch the final two innings. Ramos hit a solo shot against Elmore in the eighth, and added a two-run drive off Franklin in the ninth to finish with four RBIs.

San Francisco snapped a worrying run of nine consecutive home defeats by beating Seattle 6-2.

Matt Duffy homered and drove in three runs while Casey McGehee added a two-run double as the Giants snapped their longest home skid since an 11-gamer at New York’s Polo Grounds in 1940.

Miami scored a franchise-record eight first-inning runs against New York pitcher and former teammate Nathan Eovaldi to set up a 12-2 thrashing of the Yankees.

Oakland’s Eric Sogard singled in the go-ahead in the top of the ninth, lifting the Athletics to a 6-5 win over San Diego and spoiling the debut of Padres interim manager Pat Murphy.

Kansas City’s Chris Young became the first Royals pitcher to drive in three runs in a game since 1972 and worked seven strong innings, leading his team to 7-2 over Milwaukee.

Boston’s Brock Holt became the first Red Sox player to hit for the cycle since 1996 as the team ended a seven-game losing skid with a 9-4 victory over Atlanta.

Baltimore hit a franchise record eight home runs, with two each from Manny Machado and newcomer Chris Parmelee, as the Orioles breezed past a woeful Philadelphia 19-3.

The defeat sealed the Phillies’ first winless road trip of at least eight games since an 0-9 run in 1883, their inaugural season.

Pittsburgh’s Charlie Morton pitched seven scoreless innings to remain unbeaten since returning from hip surgery, guiding the Pirates past the Chicago White Sox 3-0.

Morton (5-0) lowered his ERA to 1.62 after not allowing a batter to advance beyond second base.

The Pirates have thrown three straight shutouts and five overall during their six-game winning run, a stretch in which their starters have allowed a sum of just one earned run.

The Los Angeles Angels ended Arizona’s four-game winning run 4-1, Cincinnati beat Detroit 5-2, Cleveland charged past the Chicago Cubs 6-0, and Houston defeated Colorado 8-5.
