JEDDAH: Carmen Duma earned distinction as the first player to become back-to-back monthly champion after winning the May edition of the OFBC (Overseas Filipino Bowlers Club) Monthly Tournament at the Iceland Bowling Center here.
Duma was unhallenged during the five-game series with handicap format competition on 869 to duplicate her feat in April when she and husband Alex were the champions.
On the men’s side, Cesar Pagtalunan, a Class B bowler, stormed home on 993 for the title on scratch games of 155, 206, 197, 184 and 191.
Jose Bayag Jr. was a distant second on 974 (176, 170, 150, 181 and 177) while Rico Bulalayao and Lito Zamudio completed the podium winnners on 960 and 918. Bulalayao carded games of 189, 165, 160, 194 and 162 while Zamudio had 179, 187, 149, 173 and 170.
All three had their names on the winners’ list for the first time in the monthly series leading up to the Bowler of the Year finals in December.
Runner-up to Dumia in the ladies’ division on 801 was Babes Yushimine while Vangie Lim tallied 752 in third place. Hercie Bosito took the fourth position on 681.
Dumia put together games of 135, 173, 118, 174 and 167. Yushimine came through with 115, 124, 149, 157 and 136. Lim shot 131, 140, 113, 113 and 253 while Bosito compiled 114, 113, 119, 114 and 89.
The winners received cash prizes during the awards ceremony in the OFBC’s third monthly event.
Under the tournament format, bowlers play five-game series with handicap sudden death with the top four in each division to receive cash prizes. In case of ties, the high and low rule will be applied to break the deadlock.
The Bowler of the Year finals have been expanded to include not only the monthly winners but those from the wildcard phase and the seeded qualifiers as well.
